Description

How do we celebrate our individual identities without creating separation? What does being inclusive mean?

We invite Phyll Opoku-Gyimah, to discuss why creating an inclusive space was so important when she co-founded UK Black Pride*, when she worked in the Civil Service, as a trade unionist and in her faith.

Intersectionality and the impact of having multiple recognised characteristics is not often acknowledged. Whether you are a single Dad, black woman or disabled and bisexual, it may be that you receive acknowledgement of one aspect of your diversity and not the other or others.

Phyll’s talk will include an opportunity to ask questions.

Following the talk there will be a reception and an Afro-Samba dance performance by staff and students which will begin at 7.30pm.

This event will include British Sign language interpretation, please let us know if you will be using this service or if you have any other access requirements.

*UK Black Pride promotes unity and co-operation among all Black people of African, Asian, Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Latin American descent, as well as their friends and families, who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender.
